The 1987 World Series, in which the Minnesota Twins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, was the first World Series in which the home team won all seven games. The World Series victory by the Twins was the first for the franchise since 1924, when the team was located in Washington, D.C., and known as the Washington Senators. Twins pitcher Frank Viola was named MVP.
