The 1996 World Series matched the defending champion Atlanta Braves against the New York Yankees, with the Yankees winning in six games for their 23rd in history.

Game 5 was the final game to be played at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Atlanta became the first city to host the World Series and the Olympics in the same year and Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium became the first stadium to host baseball in an Olympics and the World Series in the same year. Yankees pitcher John Wetteland was named MVP.
